INDUSTRIE-CLUB PROMOTING TOP TALENT IN SCIENCE AND RESEARCH.
Düsseldorf-based Industrie-Club e.V. has increasingly set itself the task of promoting science, research and teaching in recent years. With this in mind, Industrie-Club supported for the first time in 1997 three graduate students studying for doctorates at the Heinrich Heine University, who each received a grant for a year at a partner university abroad in order to further their research work.In 1998, the Club established with scientific support from the North Rhine-Westphalian Science Center the Science Prize of Industrie-Club, which is to be awarded for the eighth time this year. The prize, which invites entries each year in different subjects, aims to promote innovative scientific research which is suitable for implementation in industrial production or designed to further improve production processes. It is directed at young scientists in North Rhine-Westphalia and offers prize money of € 20,000.
In addition, and starting from the winter semester 2005/2006, Industrie-Club is enabling a top student at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Science to spend a semester at a university abroad and inviting the winners of the Science Prize to attend the annual conference of Nobel laureates to be held in Lindau. An additional place is intended for a nominee of the Academy of Sciences.
Industrie-Club is also supporting the Heinrich Heine University's initiative to found the Düsseldorf Business School with donations for the establishment of a scientific library.
This funding, which is provided through the nonprofit special Industrie-Club trust, has required more than € 400,000 in grants and subsidies over the past nine years since 1997. Institutions associated with Industrie-Club and its scientific activities, such as the Ernst Poensgen Foundation or private individuals including Jan Kleinewefers, account for about one-third of these donations overall. Among these generous contributors is now also IKB Deutsche Industriebank.
Industrie-Club's interest in promoting science was laid down in its charter of 1928, which was adopted 16 years after the Club's founding in 1912. In addition, topics and projects related to politics, the economy, science and academia, the arts, and society have defined the affairs and activities of Industrie-Club, which sees itself primarily as a forum for communication, where contacts such as those between business and academia are systematically facilitated and promoted.
The Club is currently working on two major scientific projects. With the generous support of the Gerda Henkel Foundation, it is preparing to publish all the around 600 speeches which have been given at Industrie-Club since it was founded in 1912. In collaboration with a group of renowned historians Prof. Dr. Volker Ackermann is preparing an academic account of the Industrie-Club's history, which will bear witness to the Club's philosophy based on the principles of continuity, integrity and orientation.
